If you’ve washed well and still have problems with a bad odor, or if you have itching or burning around the vagina, you may need to see your doctor. These types of problems are usually easy to fix, so don’t be afraid to get help.
Just remember that all girls going through puberty and all women have vaginal discharge. It’s normal and just another part of growing up.
Hair Down There!
Remember the definition of puberty that meant “to grow hairy or mossy”? Yep, that’s usually the next thing that happens once you start puberty. For some girls, especially those with dark hair or skin, the hair comes before the breast buds. You probably already know which parts become hairy, but you know us—we’re gonna give you all the details!
As those hormone messengers are traveling around your body, they will cause you to start sprouting darker hairs on your mons and in your armpits. The hair on your mons is called pubic (PYOO bick) hair. You might also notice that the hairs on your legs are getting darker and thicker, too. (We’ll talk more about armpit and leg hair in Chapter 6).
